Hello and welcome!
I’m Christy.
For as long as I can remember, movies have always been an inseparable part of my life. Like many who grow up in Hong Kong, I spent most of my childhood weekends watching movies with my parents at home and in cinemas. From Stephen Chow’s slapstick comedies, to classic rom-coms like How to Lose a Guy in 10 days, to superhero action-adventures, to mumblecore indies, storytelling in films has been a constant and personal source of joy, inspiration and meaning.
Inspired by my professors and fellow literature students, I started Project Unwrapped on Instagram in 2017 when I was in university. It began as a hobby and an excuse of mine to indulge more in the magical and limitless world of movies, a passion project to motivate myself to write, and a promise to myself to create something that I could be proud of (even if no one would read it). Hopefully, if I’m ever so lucky, whoever stumbles upon my writing would find it slightest bit enjoyable to read (or at least it didn’t completely waste your time).
These days, I work professionally as a local Hong Kong teacher, sneaking references of my favourite on-screen moments into my day-to-day teaching. You’ll find me watching Greta Gerwig’s filmography and listening to Taylor Swift on repeat, when I’m particularly in need of comfort.
